Day 28 - Travelling

Hi guys,

Today will be no drawing. There is one thing I didn't give a thought. How would I draw during travel? I think I prepared solution but don't have time to try it out right now.

So I hope tomorrow I will do some digital drawing, if not you will be getting photos of my pen&paper sketches. :)

Till than!

Day 27 - Wooden mailbox WIP 1

Hi guys,

Here is the reference that I'm using to draw mailbox.

I've found it through google images.

And here is what I've got after 20-30min drawing.

Not much really. I tried to draw the mailbox it differently. I think the perspective is really messed up. May be I will redraw everything tomorrow.

Day 26 - Home sweet home

He guys,

I've changed the schedule of my drawing sessions and forget to post the pic.
So from now on I will draft the post and save it for later right after finishing the drawing.
What else. I've lost the count of chapters and I'm on the chapter twelve right now. The bonus challenge of this chapter is to draw a wooden mail-box. I think I will find the photo for reference and try to render wooden texture this time.

Cya.

Day 25 - Holes bonus drawing lesson 10

Here is what I've got after drawing fourteen weird looking ellipsis.

I decided to go very rough and sketchy to quickly try different forms. They are not so different though. Some of them even don't look like holes.

Lesson 11 awaits. I haven't peeked so I honestly don't know what's inside. But I really hope there is something exciting :o)

Day 24 - Shading on cylinders completed

Just finished the shading.

Tried to fill the shading differently. It was pretty boring as I don't fill like I'm getting better at this.
Tomorrow will continue with the bonus challenge from the chapter.

Day 23 - More cylinders to draw

I was so tired today and couldn't finish the shading.

The drawing will be finished tomorrow. Nothing much to tell here.
Cya.

Day 22 - Three cylinders form life

So here it is. Spent almost one hour to draw three ellipsis. How pathetic it is?

I skipped almost all details.
And I'm still not sure that I got the proportions right.
So tomorrow I will start new lesson, but I think I need to return to this eventually.

Day 21 - Three cylinders to draw

Hello, hello!
Sleeping deprivation for the win!
Actually I decided to keep it short today, only 30 minutes for drawing today.
I've started lesson 10 of the book.

Something like this came out, wasn't very to draw, only hard thing to draw are these ellipsis.
So I will add them to my daily warm-up drawing routine. And I feel like two constructions dots for ellipse building are not enough to draw perfect ellipse. So may be I would draw more for the training at first. Hope it makes sense.

Anyway tomorrow there will be more drawing from life. I will find something cylindrical to draw.

Day 20 - Now you only draw me black roses part 2

Hi guys,

Here is the result of another 50-minutes drawing session.

I was supposed to draw whole bouquet but I was too tired to do the whole bunch of flowers.
Lack of sleep started to take its toll on me. So I think that I need to change my sleeping habits asap.
I wasn't sleeping enough more than one week and it is obviously affecting my drawing ability.
And it will need to change.

Day 19 - Now you only draw me black roses part 1

Hello hello.

Today was about roses.
Tried to draw one for a little while. (forty-fifty minutes)

Not sure that I got everything right like stem and leaves. The bud is definitely not correct but is is the core of the lesson to draw it this way.
Will try to do more of these tomorrow.

Sunday, March 29, 2015

Day 18 - Warming up for lesson 9

Hello.

Not much to show today. Especially after koala disaster yesterday. It got me thinking, that next to skills I need to master are anatomy and sense of value. After I finish this book I will find something to improve these skills.

Here are warm-up exercises for lesson 9 of the book.

Drawing of the empty bowl or something.

And the next one is the drawing of some "flags"  I guess.

Forty minutes well spent.
Be ready tomorrow we will be drawing roses!!! Yay!

Day 17 - Drawing koala from reference picture

Ok here is the bonus challenge from lesson 8.
Part 1 find koala's photo! Easy one. Here you go cutey

.

Part 2 draw koala using the photo above. OMG really? WTF... BTW maybe I got it all wrong.
But I've done it. It took a little bit than one hour again. I know it's not perfect at all.

I guess that I did wrong like everything. Well may be you can even find remote resemblance if you look long enough into it. But anyway it worth the try I think. Negative experience still counts, right?

I don't think that I can do better at this point. So I won't invest any more drawing time into this.
It means tomorrow I will be busy with lesson 9!

See ya.

Day 16 - Drawing poor furry koala

This is the message to all koalas in the world.
I'm so sorry!!!

Poor thing, I didn't mean to offend you :)

One hour of the drawing again. It was very afraid to draw koala. Rendering furry texture and drawing new things was very difficult. But tomorrow will be even harder I need to find real koala's photo and draw it. Frightening....

See you tomorrow.

Day 15 - Rendering furry texture

And I thought that I broke my wacom pen. But it was only some computer glitch. After restart everything returned to normal.

And here is my drawing.

There is not much to say. Look at the middle one, I think it definitely needs more work. Left and right one are kinda okeyish, I guess. Keep in mind this was only part of the lesson 7. But this was what I've accomplished during my usual one hour drawing session.
So I so more furry things tomorrow. (not creepy)

I'm thinking also that I need to change the schedule of my drawing sessions. I want to start them earlier so may be I can draw more than one hour if I need/want.

This is all for today. Tomorrow will be more!

Wednesday, March 25, 2015

Day 14 - Drawing bonus exercise from lesson 7

So the bonus challenge was to draw nine storey building not just copy something from the book.
Here is my version of the structure.

The shadows are notably bad , but I hope the forms are ok. Anyway it took about an hour again.
So I think this is optimal time period for my drawing session.
Lesson eight is tomorrow!
I've peeked a little bit and not very happy with the content. It is simple, I'm just not sure that I can render the texture correctly. But we will see!

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

Day 13 - Drawing advanced level cubes

Hi guys, finally I did it, I broke my posting routine.

So today's drawing is advanced level cubes from the lesson 7. Nothing serious, forty minutes and here we go.

So I stopped trying to do some perspective foreshortening, and started trying to do the same foreshortening for all lines.

Next will bonus challenge and student examples from the same lesson.
See ya!

Monday, March 23, 2015

Day 12 - Drawing something from imagination

Hi guys, here it is! I'm proud to present to you my version of very blocky tank. :)

The foreshortening is very weird I think. The shadows could definitely use some more work. And the drawing took more than forty minutes to get it to this state. Should I fix everything or move on with the lessons? I'll decide tomorrow.

Until then.

Day 11 - Drawing giant robot stacking tables style

It took forty minutes to draw this giant robot with bandy legs. Lesson 6 is officially over.
I'm a little bit confused. The book says about foreshortening, but nothing about two point perspective yet. But I can see it on the drawings very often. So may be I'm simply jumping the gun.

There is a lot of mistakes in the robot construction but I leave it as is. Don't want to be to perfectionistic. The goal of the lesson wasn't about robot anatomy.

So next time there will be unleashed creativity and stacking tables madness.
See you tomorrow!

Day 10 - Drawing weird stacking tables composition

Hi guys,

Crazy day. I almost convinced myself that I don't feel like drawing today. Can you believe this?
My procrastination strikes back. :) The brain started mind games so I had to remind myself that I don't have the luxury to use this excuse if I want ever to achieve anything.

So here is the result of today's drawing session it took almost one hour again. I don't know if its a bad or a good thing that it took so long. The only thing that worries me will I be able to draw something like this from my mind? Should I try to do this on my own? The book doesn't say anything about improvisation yet, but I think it can't hurt?

Tomorrow I will draw another example from the book. And after tomorrow I will think about the improvisation.

Another thought to consider - how else will my subconscious try to trick me into procrastinating?
I will find it out tomorrow. So do you.
Till then.

Day 9 - Drawing more stacking tables

Today was a very hard day, I thought that my procrastination will prevail. I almost forgot that I have drawing session today. But still here I am.

This is what I drew in one hour and twenty minutes. I thought that I will never finish it. :)
And by the way I was able to met the deadline of two minutes to draw stacking tables.

So baby steps and tomorrow we will enjoy even more. Stacking tables for the win!!!!

Thursday, March 19, 2015

Day 8 - Drawing stacking tables

Hurray,  I overcame my procrastination. And did the lesson 6 without bonus challenge.  It took about half an hour to draw this. May be I should pay less attention to details, as the drawing is still not to perfect.

After this task the author asked to draw the same figure in 2 minutes. My best result was 3 minutes so far. So I will be practicing more tomorrow.

After that I will continue with bonus challenge and will be drawing few more student examples from the book. I don't have the goal to finish the book asap. So I will take my time and will not rush anything. For the first time in my life I'm enjoying the process and not obsessing over the outcome.

More skewed figures tomorrow!

Day 7 - Draw cubes with perspective flavor

Today I finally finished Lesson 4 and did Lesson 5 from the book. I've added two point perspective and shadows that look a little bit more real. It took one hour.

Lesson 5 was all about opened boxes. Nothing fancy. And it really helps to get used to tablet pen.

Lesson 6 shouldn't be very hard. So I hope I will do the whole lesson during drawing session tomorrow. This is a slippery slope though. I have problems with delivering promised and assessing the time needed for task completion. As I usually don't follow the advice that every project manager uses - to multiply the assessed time by pi.

So tomorrow is very important day for my little experiment. Saying that to add more suspense. :)

Tuesday, March 17, 2015

Day 6 - Few more boxes to draw

Only few more drawings today. Really nothing to say.

Only can say one thing -  drawing cubes is boring. Well not the most boring 40 minutes of my life but still....

Tomorrow I will have more of these, so don't switch the channel.

Monday, March 16, 2015

Day 5 - Drawing cubes - how hard can it be?

There is not much to tell. Forty minutes of my life and three cubes are ready.

I realized that I'm struggling without the glove. Hope it will arrive soon enough.
Think next time I will draw a cube from life with real shadow.

Anyhow more cubes tomorrow!!!

Sunday, March 15, 2015

Day 4 - Draw more balls for the god of balls! (part 2)

Today it was harder that I've imagined. Sunday plus the sketch that looked complicated to me.
But hurray!!! Lesson 3 is officially done!

The shadows are far from ideal again. But to draw this far it already took a little bit more than an hour. So I decided that it is good enough for the sketch and stopped at this stage.

Stay tuned, more geometrical non-sense tomorrow :)

Saturday, March 14, 2015

Day 3 - Draw more balls for the god of balls! (part 1)

Hi there! I wasn't very happy with all the spheres casting shadows. So I've searched for more examples and I've found interesting youtube video. It was "proko" channel I guess.
Here is the result of what I've learned.

I think it looks much better than previous tries.

I also made a little bit more progress in the book. Well 40 minutes later I got this :)

That's it for today, thank you for reading.
Till tomorrow!

Friday, March 13, 2015

Day 2 - Overlapping balls to draw

Hello! I'm still here. And yes I'm as surprised as you are that I've lasted this long.
Two sketches today. Lesson 2 of the same book.

First one was to draw two overlapping spheres with shadows.

Second was to draw from life. I've found two old tennis balls.

Not very happy about the sketch though. Shadows and highlights are very weird.
And there is no texture. But I think it wasn't about texture anyway.
So it is what it is.

Enjoy it as much as you can :) See ya tomorrow!

Day1 - Drawing some sketches to compare later

Yay! Today is the first day. I decided to go with this book You can draw in 30 days.

The reason is simple. I think you've all heard of 10k hours rule. You need to spend 10 thousand hours to truly master something. But first 20 hours are very important according to this guy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MgBikgcWnY and I tend to believe him.

That's why I need something very basic and yet useful to fill my first 20 hours. This book is fits just perfectly as I have no drawing skills.

Here is what I've drawn today:

First of all I was asked to draw a house, a plane and a bagel (yes it is a bagel at the bottom).
The goal is to compare this sketch with the drawings after thirty lessons of the book.

Main task was to draw sphere with simple shadow.

And the bonus was to sketch an apple.

Everything took almost 1 hour 20 minutes. That's all for today, see you tomorrow!

Intro

This will be the log of my attempt to start drawing marathon. Every day starting tomorrow I will be drawing something at least for 15 minutes. I will be drawing no matter what - work, procrastination, illness or million other reasons I used before to avoid leaving my comfort zone.

The goal is to kickstart my drawing abilities and to achieve my long-lasting dream.

So every day I will be posting at least one picture - the result of my drawing session.
Any comments and suggestions are very welcomed!

 Get ready folks!
